4th of July with the Older Toddlers and Preschoolers

Last week, the Older Toddlers and Preschoolers learned all about America's birthday - the 4th of July!

During Circle Time, they enjoyed literature such as "God Bless America" by Irving Berlin, "America the Beautiful" by Katharine Lee Bates, "Fourth of July Mice" by Bethany Roberts and "The Story of America's Birthday" by Patricia A. Pingry. During Circle Time, we discussed how the 4th of July is America's birthday and the types of activities Americans participate in to celebrate that birthday - parades, picnics, fireworks, etc. We discussed the American flag, including the colors - red, white and blue! - stripes and stars! Each student had a turn waving the American flag while shouting, "Happy Birthday, America!"

The Older Toddlers and Preschoolers used red, white and blue construction paper, glue, glitter, paint and their own hands to create 4th of July flags and fireworks!

They enjoyed a special Red, White and Blue snack - strawberries, vanilla yogurt and blue sprinkles! Yum!

And, of course, we had to bake and decorate a cake to really celebrate America's birthday! Each student took a turn mixing up our cake batter then enjoyed decorating a delicious 4th of July cake!

Take a look!
