Pesach in the Preschool Classroom

The Preschool Classroom has begun a two-week unit on Passover.

Today, the Preschoolers created art depicting Pharaoh and the Jewish people in the land of Egypt…

Their artwork reads:

“The Jewish People in the Land of Egypt: Long ago, a mean king ruled of Egypt. He was called Pharaoh. The Jewish people who lived in Egypt were slaves. They had to work very hard building cities for Pharaoh.”

Preschool teacher, Mrs. Mally, created a three-dimensional representation of Moses parting the Red Sea to use with the Preschoolers during Circle Time as she continues to teach them about Passover over the next two weeks. Mrs. Mally also created Origami jumping frogs, which she plans to use in the next two weeks to teach the Preschoolers about the plagues of Egypt; frogs were the second plague of Egypt.

In the upcoming days, the Preschoolers will create small baskets out of foam to hold a baby Moses cutout!

Pesach in the Older Toddler Classroom

The Older Toddler Classroom has begun a two-week unit on Passover.

The Older Toddlers created a basket to hold baby Moses before sending him down the river. The Older Toddlers created the basket out of white construction paper, glue brown paint and straw. The Older Toddlers decorated a construction paper cutout of baby Moses and placed him in their finished baskets with a blanket!

The Older Toddlers also created Matzah by placing white paper over Legos and scribbling over the Legos with brown crayons!

Preschool Field Trip: Model Matzah Bakery

On Thursday, March 27, the Preschool class participated in a “Model Matzah Bakery” at Young Israel of Brookline.

Following a review of the Passover story and learning the special meaning behind baking Matzah, students ground wheat, mixed flour and water and created dough! Each preschooler wore a “Matzah Baker’s Hat” while kneading their own piece of dough and watching it rise in the oven.

Each preschool student took home the matzah they baked in an authentic, handmade shmurah matzah they decorated!

Classroom Rules in the Young Toddler Room

Classroom Rules keep us kind - and safe!

Young Toddlers – Eric Carle’s The Very Hungry Caterpillar

The Young Toddler Classroom is filled with caterpillars!

The Young Toddlers began their Spring Unit with Eric Carle’s The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

The Young Toddlers created caterpillars using construction paper, googly eyes, pipe cleaners and pom-poms… The caterpillars are 3D and crawling off the bulletin board!

The Young Toddlers also created caterpillars out of clothespins, googly eyes and pom-poms… These caterpillars like to cling onto our Young Toddler friends.

The Young Toddler teachers also cut out foam apples to use as finger puppets for the Young Toddlers! The toddlers use their finger puppets during circle time to act out the very hungry caterpillar eating an apple!

The Young Toddlers helped their teachers make a very hungry caterpillar out of balloons! The caterpillar is floating around the Young Toddler classroom… Looking for something to eat!
