Happy Purim from Yal-Day-New!

For the past two weeks, the Infants, Young Toddlers, Older Toddlers and Preschoolers learned all about Purim!

With the help of their teachers, the Infants make Groggers using plastic eggs, beads spoons, tape and Purim stickers. They’ve been shake, shake, shaking them all week!

The Young Toddlers made lion and lamb masks using paper plates, yellow and brown yarn, cotton balls, construction paper, popsicle sticks and glue. The Young Toddlers also decorated mishloach manot bags using dot paint and Purim stickers. The toddlers filled their bags with sweet treats and delicious hamentashens.

The Older Toddlers painted wood masks and decorated mishloach manot bags using Purim felt pieces and glue. The toddlers filled their bags with sweet treats and delicious hamentashens. The teachers also asked the toddlers what costume they plan to wear for Purim! The teachers recorded their answers and posted them on the door for the parents to see…

The Preschoolers decorated plastic masks using paint, feathers and Purim stickers. The preschoolers also decorated mishloach manot bags, which they filled with sweet treats and delicious hamentashens. They used construction paper, felt, glitter and Purim stickers to create hamentashens, megillahs and small books about the four mitzvahs of Purim.

The Young Toddlers, Older Toddlers and Preschoolers all took part in a cooking activity! They each made delicious hamentashens to take home and share with their families.

The Purim Party is Monday, March 17 at 10 a.m. Parents are to send their children dressed in costume and are welcome to join the staff and students for magic show followed by a parade  with Groggers!

Imagination Runs Wild with Jenn!

Young Toddlers, Older Toddlers and Preschoolers – Wednesdays at 9 a.m.

Imagination Runs Wild is a creative movement program for our toddler and preschool students. The class is designed for children to channel their energy in a safe and captivating way, while developing physical skills in an atmosphere of cooperation and trust rather than competition. When participating in this class every week, students will build confidence,strength, and hand-eye coordination, while encouraged to let their Imagination Runs Wild!

The enrichment program teacher, Jenn Harrington, is a movement specialist with a background in gymnastics and dance. Her class is based on the principle that self-confidence is built on feelings of competence and respect for others. Jenn encourages children to do things that they never thought they could do with support from the children's peers and praise for overcoming an obstacle.

Musical Adventuresis a musical enrichment program that Yal-Day-New provides students every Tuesday morning. Linda Nussbaum uses her musicaltalent, instruments, and singing voice to engage the students through songs andbody movements. She correlates her music class with the Jewish holidays,seasons of the year, and classroom curriculum, along with age-appropriatelyrics. Our Young Toddler, Older Toddler, and Preschool classrooms enjoy makingbeautiful music with the instruments and singing while Linda plays thekeyboard! Linda uses puppets, props, dance movements, games, and instrumentsthroughout her class.

The focus of Musical Adventures is to:

1) understand, at increasingly challenging levels,differences between quiet/loud, fast/slow, high/low, and smooth/bumpy sounds

2) build an awareness of how to maintain and hear asteady beat, and begin to understand how rhythm compares with a beat

3) use songs to enhance the Secular and Judaiccurriculum of the school

4) develop the skills to sing on pitch, buildcomfort with singing and/or performing both individually and as a group

5) explore simple instruments and their sounds;hear and recognize different instruments and/or singing voices

6) have fun with friends and teachers whilesinging, dancing and playing instruments!

My First Yoga
Infants, Toddlers& Preschoolers – Mondays at 9:00 a.m.

My First Yoga is dedicated to challenging children physically and creatively to inspire character growth. Our programs provide the appropriate structure, guidance and support necessary to engage students through activities that stretch mind and body while improving focus. Classes take place every Monday morning at Yal-Day-New.

Infant Classes use age-appropriate techniques to stimulate and soothe. Instructors massage and help children gently stretch while singing favorite nursery rhymes. Infants build the strength and flexibility needed to reach age-appropriate physical milestones.

Toddler Classes combine inviting movements, songs and relaxation techniques. Poses and activities that quickly become familiar favorites are repeated to encourage mastery while new poses and activities are introduced to stimulate and challenge. Toddlers build developmental skills such as: turn taking, counting and picture recognition and gross motor skills such as: jumping, balancing, and body awareness.

Preschool Classes engage students’ natural curiosity through the use of movement-based stories and exciting themes.Threaded through tales of pirates, space exploration and nature are teachable moments during which children are able to voice their own thoughts and questions. Hamantashen Cooking Project for Purim

The Young Toddlers made Hamantashen today for Purim!

The toddlers helped pour the ingredients into a big bowl, stir then shape the Hamantashen (that's why they're not perfect - but that's okay!)

We'll send the toddlers home with their Hamantashen to share with their families.

Young Toddlers Decorate Shabbat Mitzvah Tin Box

The students in the Young Toddler room decorated Mitzvah tin boxes to use during Shabbat on Fridays and eventually take home.

The Mitzvah tin boxes were provided by the Jewish National Fund.

The first Jewish National Fund collection tin was actually Theodor Herzl’s hat. At the Fifth Zionist Congress in 1901, Herzi removed his hat and asked delegates for donations to purchase land in Eretz Yisrael to re-establish a Jewish homeland.

Two weeks later, the iconic Blue Box, or pushke, was born. Stamped with the words “National Fund,” small tin boxes were distributed to Jewish communities across the glove and numbered over a million by World War II. Their impact was immediate, generating vital funds to develop and cultivate the land of Israel.

For many, the Blue Box is an integral part of childhood memories. More than a century after its creation, it remains a powerful symbol of the link between Diaspora Jewry and the people of Israel.

Birthday Parties in the Young Toddler Classrooms!

We’ve celebrated three birthdays this month in the Young Toddler classroom!

We decorated with balloons, streamers and party hats; we also shared yummy chocolate and vanilla cake with frosting to celebrate!

Young Toddler friends made special birthday books as a present for the birthday boy or girl to take home and share with their family.

A pretend second candle was added to the classroom cupcake!

A Touch of Israel in the Young Toddler Classroom

Photographs of Israel’s most historic and religious locations, as well as a new Alph-Bet, were hung at eye-level for the students in the Young Toddler Classroom.

Wrapping Up Our Dr. Seuss Unit

Today, the Young Toddler Classroom wrapped up a one-week unit on Dr. Seuss.

Each day during Circle Time, we read a different Dr. Seuss book.

We made pretend green eggs using vanilla yogurt, green food coloring and vanilla cookies, as well as a popular Dr. Seuss soup! Each student took a turn adding snack ingredients to the soup and practiced stirring with wood spoons.

We decorated a variety of Dr. Seuss coloring pages using dot paint, crayons and Dr. Seuss stickers... We also made fish, as described in Dr. Seuss' books: One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish!

On Monday, we will begin a two-week unit on Purim!

 

 

Dr. Seuss Unit

On Monday, in light of Dr. Seuss' 110^th birthday on March 2, we will do a one-week, fun-filled Dr. Seuss Unit.

We plan to make pretend green eggs and ham out of vanilla yogurt, green food coloring and vanilla Wafers, as well as a popular Dr. Seuss soup for snack!

Wrapping Up Our Color Unit

Today, we wrapped up a two-week unit on Colors. We learned red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, pink, brown, black and white. Every day during Circle Time, we learned the color of the day through story and song. Each child made their own First Book of Colors using a variety of colorful sensory materials.
Next week, in light of Dr. Seuss' birthday on March 2, we will do a one-week, fun-filled Dr. Seuss Unit followed by a two-week unit on Purim.

Color Unit

Today, the Young Toddlers will begin a two-week Color Unit!

The toddlers will learn red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, brown, white and black.

Wrapping Up Our Transportation Unit

Last week, the Young Toddler room finished up a two-week unit on Transportation.

The Young Toddlers created air plane wings out of construction paper and yarn, which they decorated with crayons, dot paint and stickers. The Young Toddlers pretended to be air planes; they flew around the classroom to music and a bubble machine.

The Young Toddlers also created a road out of black construction paper, glue and foam cut outs of cars, trucks, buses and planes.

The Young Toddlers also pretended to float boats in the water table.
