Israel's Independence Day in the Preschool Classroom

Over the past two weeks, the Preschool students learned about - and celebrated - Israel's Independence Day.

During Circle Time, Preschool students enjoyed learning more about Israel through literature such as "My Cousin Tamar Lives in Israel," "Ella's Trip to Israel" and "ABC Israel."

Each day the Preschool students created art related to Israel's Independence Day. They created the flag of Israel out of white construction paper, blue foam and glue. They colored U.S. passports and glued pictures of themselves inside. Using magazine clippings, the Preschool students "packed their suitcases" for a trip to Israel; each one remembered to pack their passport! Using paper plates, brown paint and red and green construction paper, the Preschool students created pita, falafel, tomato and lettuce. In addition to creating a Western Wall for the classroom, in which each student pasted their prayers, each student created their own Western Wall out of brown and green construction paper, popsicle sticks and glue.

On Tuesday, May 6, the students of Yal-Day-New came together celebrated Israel's Independence Day in the Preschool classroom. Every student enjoyed a delicious kosher meal of pita, humus, falafel and lettuce!

Each classroom also partook in a cooking activity that day... And of course enjoyed their delicious, sweet creation. The Preschool students made cupcakes - which they decorated and topped with the flag of Israel!
